Financial Support For Families

Kindergeld (Child Benefit)

Kindergeld is a financial benefit provided to families with children under the age of 18 (or up to 25 if the child is still in education). It helps parents with the costs of raising children. For families in Germany, this benefit is automatically paid and varies depending on the number of children. Currently, the monthly payments are:

  1. First and second child: €250 per child
  2. Third child: €250 per child
  3. Fourth and subsequent children: €250 per child

This allowance helps ease the financial burden for families and is essential for families with children living in Germany.

Elterngeld (Parental Allowance)

Elterngeld is available to parents who take parental leave after the birth of a child. It is a financial support provided to parents to help cover living expenses while they are on leave from work. The amount is based on the parent’s income before the birth and can range from €300 to €1,800 per month. This allowance is available for up to 12 months and can be extended if both parents share the leave.

Wohngeld (Housing Benefit)

Families with lower incomes may be eligible for Wohngeld, a housing subsidy that helps cover rent or mortgage payments. This subsidy can make living in Germany more affordable, especially for families with multiple children or those with low-income jobs.

Bafög (Financial Aid for Students)

If your children are pursuing higher education, Bafög can help cover the costs of schooling, living expenses, and other necessities. It’s available to all students in Germany based on financial need, with the possibility of receiving part of the aid as a loan and part as a grant.
